QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS ABOUT SPONSORSHIPS
Kinderhilfswerk Stiftung Global-Care was also confronted with unfamiliar challenges because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our goal is to help children in need, and it was important to us to maintain this as our highest priority, even in a global pandemic.
Our aid measures were extended to protect people from the virus, which include clean water, hygiene trainings and medical care:
We still provide for the child you sponsor, even if:
Your sponsor child and their family regularly receive food packages and hygiene articles such as soap, disinfectant and masks to cover their faces. Our local project partners are available by phone for the families to provide help, insight and support.
For questions about the child you sponsor do not hesitate to get in touch with us at any time. You can also find news and up-to-date information on our website and on our social media.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
In 1975, Hans-Jürgen Pechmann, who was a trained nurse and operator of a private nursing home, travelled to India by himself. Even though he was living in secure life circumstances, he was worried about his sponsor child and wanted to see for himself what their living conditions were. He found his child in the north of India, close to the city Dehradun. The life circumstances in India touched Hans-Jürgen very deeply, and it prompted him to found “Kinderhilfswerk Bergen” in 1976, which then merged into Kinderhilfswerk Global-Care.
Current need for donations for projects as well as important information about GLOBAL CARE can be found on this website. If you have further questions about projects or want to request more information material you are welcome to submit your request via phone, E-Mail or our contact form.
Helping people in need is not bound to any denomination or religion. But the work we do is a testimony of the love and Christian virtues we want to share with others in the name of God. Our goal is a dignified and healthy life of integrity for every child and their family – regardless of gender, color of skin, religion or affiliation to a group.
We have been gathering experience in planning and executing projects and humanitarian relief for more than 40 years now. Donations to GLOBAL CARE is the most effective way you can support us in our work.
You can find tips and information about traveling to developing countries and crisis areas at your country’s Foreign Office. For safety reasons we cannot and will not give recommendations for your travel plans.
We ask for your understanding that we cannot accept donations in kind from individuals most of the time, the reason being the logistic and financial effort these kinds of donations entail. It is much more effective to buy relief goods locally. The transportation cost of donations in kind is most often too expensive to be profitable. With shopping in the project country, the local economy is supported, too.
We are happy about your commitment, but unfortunately we are usually unable to accept this kind of help. The well-trained staff members of our local project partners are operating the projects. They speak the local language, know the customs and are familiar with the country-specific conditions. Exceptions are so-called „work camps“ that take place in a few project countries. Volunteers offer privately organised trips to GLOBAL CARE projects. Helpers and skilled craftspeople help at their own expense and actively support GLOBAL CARE projects.
In cooperation with the recognised organisation „Global Volunteers Services gGmbH“, it is possible for young people to volunteer abroad in the context of a year of voluntary service (IJFD). The duration of the program is between six and 18 months; usually it lasts 12 months. The minimum age for taking part in a IJFD is 18 years. Of course, this voluntary service is only possible if there are no safety concerns in the country of operation. Further information can be found on this website.
SEPA is the short form for „Single Euro Payments Area“. The aim of SEPA is the simplification of cashless payments by means of a standardised procedure throughout Europe.
The SEPA direct debit mandate includes the donor’s consent to the collection of the donation by SEPA direct debit to Kinderhilfswerk Global-Care.
You can terminate your SEPA direct debit mandate at any time, so no further payments will be collected by us. Simply send us an e-mail to info@kinderhilfswerk.de or call us on +49 (0)5622 6160.
IBAN stands for „International Bank Account Number“ and is the account number for simplified payment transactions. In Germany, this number has 22 digits and is made up of the country code (DE for Germany), a two-digit check digit, the previous bank code and the old account number.
BIC stands for „Business Identifier Code“ and refers to the international account number. The BIC consists of letters and numbers and has a length of 11 digits. The BIC is made up of the bank code, the country code, the coding of the location and the identification of the branch.
You can find your IBAN number on the front and back of your bank card and on your account statements. If in doubt, you can find out directly from your bank.
For unique identification, each recipient of payment has an individual identifier: the Creditor Identifier. In Germany, the Creditor Identifier is 18 digits long and contains a two-digit ISO country code (DE), a check digit, a business area identifier and a national identifier.
The financing, planning, implementation and control of our work is compensated with a corresponding administrative expense. For years, our administrative costs have been in the range of 10-20% of the funds entrusted to us. In regular reviews, the German Institute for Social Questions (DZI) assesses the appropriateness of these numbers.
Our projects have a defined donation goal. If one of these goals has already been accomplished by the time your donations reaches our bank account, your donation will be put to use in another project. Every cent of your donation helps!
To us, communication is very important. A person who donates to support our work deserves gratitude and appreciation. This is why we want to say “thank you” to all of our donors, especially because often times, people expect a reaction from us when they donate. If you do not want to receive a Thank You Letter for your donation, you can let us know.
Kinderhilfswerk Stiftung Global-Care established a comprehensive internal and external control system to ensure appropriate use of the donations we receive. Our project partners are held to the same standard. Donors receive information about the use of their donations through a diligently managed reporting system. External auditors have been auditing our annual financial statements for years now. Transparency is our basis for a reliable handling of donations.
After regular extensive audits, the Independent Central Institute of Social Issues (DZI) has awarded us with the Donation Certificate as a sign of trust, transparency and efficiency. As a holder of this certificate, we commit to economising, working transparently, and providing factual information.
Your personal data, especially your name, address, phone number and bank details are solely used for carrying out donations and sponsorships, and on the basis of legal requirements of the Basic Data Protection Regulation.
